Although Activision has yet to provide a concrete release date for DOOM 3, they have sent a rough time frame around to retailers. This from IGN:
"two separate sources, one being a retail chain (which asked to remain anonymous), said they expect Activision to release the PC version of Doom 3 in late July/early August, with the Xbox version following in October." The PC release is no surprise as it's been confirmed as the summer for some time now. The Xbox version is clearly not wanted to compete with Halo 2 which is due for release on November the 9th, giving it an October release should be enough breathing space.

HomeLAN Fed had a word with Todd Hollenshead regarding the status of the DOOM movie. Contradicting what Cinescape were saying; claiming that Universal Pictures picked up the rights from Warner Bros.
"The movie rights have reverted to id, as Warner's option period expired. However, we remain a "free agent" at this time and multiple studios are interested in the project. The team of John Wells (ER, et. al.) and Lorenzo DiBonaventura (The Matrix, et. al.) that has been working on the project for over a year will remain affiliated with the DOOM movie. The studio question at this point primarily involves the financing."

Over at Cinescape they've got a few bits on what's happening with the DOOM movie.
"After Warner Bros. attempted to make a DOOM movie a reality nearly two years ago, Universal Pictures has stepped up and purchased the film rights to id Software's legendary first-person shooter video game. The same producers that tried to get the film greenlit at Warners remain on the project with Universal, namely Lorenzo Di Bonaventura and John Wells. What's changed is that the two men now have a finished script (by Dave Callaham), a new studio and a director attached (Enda McCallion in his directorial debut.) Callaham adapted his version of DOOM from the upcoming storyline of DOOM 3, the latest video game in the franchise scheduled for release next month."

HomeLAN Fed have had an interview with id Software's CEO Todd Hollenshead, here's a quick slice the of the whole thing:
"HomeLAN - Now that the game is heading into the home stretch, are you and the rest of id pleased with the way Doom III is coming along?
Todd Hollenshead - I'm very happy with the way the game has turned out. A few months ago, I intentionally stepped away from any play testing so that I could have a more objective look at the game later on and not get "too close" to the development. Playing through areas of the game for the first time in many months, even though I've demo'd those same levels dozens of times, I'm still caught by surprise, move with trepidation, and generally get the shit scared out of me on a regular basis. That's the game we set out to make when we started the project. It's taken a while to get it all done, but it's been worth it." Thanks Nik for bringing this to my attention.

We've been given the chance to have an interview with some nVidia engineers. Obviously we could do with some questions to ask. If you've got any, post them over in this thread on the forums or leave them in this posts comments section. I'll pick out the best ones and send them off.

Over on Reuters they've got an article up regarding what id Software will be working on after finishing DOOM 3. Or to be more accurate what they're not working on.
"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Video game developer id Software, famed creators of games like "Doom" and "Quake", will likely start work on its new project almost immediately after completing four years of work on "Doom 3", its chief executive says.
In an interview with Reuters on the sidelines of the video game industry trade show E3 here, Todd Hollenshead said that the game in question was new intellectual property, and was not a "Doom", "Quake" or "Wolfenstein" game." id Software have tried to break away from doing another follow-on for sometime, looks like they'll finally be able to do it now. Should be interesting to see what they can come up with.

Gamespot's turn this time around. Just posted up thier little preview of DOOM 3 on Xbox.
"We entered the next room, which was full of some kind of weird machinery. Three possessed guards were in it, and they opened fire with their weapons. By moving around the room, we kicked boxes around and crouched behind some for cover. The shotgun isn’t too effective at a distance, so we had to close the range between us and them to take the zombies down. Luckily, we were rewarded with the machine gun, and we looked around the room to find ammo and health too.
The next door we opened scared the hell out of us, because some strange humanoid-like demon leaped straight at our head. We got off a panicked shotgun blast and killed it, but as soon as it was dead (and dissolving), the door at the end of the corridor opened, and another possessed guard opened fire on us. We crouched behind some barrels and tried to push other barrels into the guard, but we ended up just rushing forward and planting some pistol rounds into his head." Check out the full preview.

IGN got a chance to sit down and play the Xbox version of DOOM 3 at this year's E3.
"In several of the levels the combat got meaty. The Snatchers come right in for close encounter fights, swiping away and clawing your flesh. A handful of shotgun blasts will usually suffice, but strafing, hiding, and using good aim is all required. The zombies were much slower, yet they're very persistent. The hell marines will hide and reload just like you, and though you'll be better and faster, they will give you a rough time.
Doom 3 is a pure adrenaline rush, a return to the hellish, dark, and evil lairs of hell that literally launched a genre (all due respect to the earlier Wolfenstein 3-D). It does get under your skin; it does give one the creeps, and it does build a level of fear and aggression that weaves into your gaming experience that without a doubt recalls the first and second Doom games. It's simple in one respect, but the basic fundamental are so well handled, the darkness really does infuse a simple yet fundamental new aspect to the game, and the new army of hell beasts are all quite lovely in their own special demonic fashion." Nothing new in this preview, but worth giving a read over.

FileFront have a very quick little DOOM 3 Xbox preview up, yes they're still coming in! Anyway here's a slice of it:
"One thing you’ll quickly notice when you start up Doom 3 for the first time is that the pacing is rather… “slow” for an Id game — at times anyway. The pacing is slow in order to build the “mood” for the game while you’re simply walking down a hallway; but once you hit a “choking point,” where a bunch of enemies were lurking and waiting for your arrival, the game speeds up into the fast-paced action and violent mayhem you’d expect from an Id game.
Speaking of “mood,” let me say this: Doom 3 has the makings to be a really scary game. And I’m not talking cheesy scares like ugly monsters jumping through windows and surprising you, I’m talking the kind of scary where you’ll end up having nightmares after playing this game. The mood for each and every map is clearly intended to scare the living daylights out of you, even if no monster is in the vicinity." Check the rest of the preview out.

Another item from IGN this time an interview. with Todd Hollenshead CEO at id Software, talking on quite a wide range of subjects regarding DOOM 3. Here's an answer to one of the questions:
"The Xbox version, because it's in contemporaneous development with the PC. When it was started, basically was conceived as a console implementation of what we're trying to do on the PC, as opposed to a port where they take whatever we do on the PC and "boom" slap it on the Xbox. The Xbox version was designed from the ground up to support co-operative play over System Link and Xbox Live. There [were] some changes, concessions, considerations that had to be made from a lot of different standpoints in terms of stuff as mundane as how narrow the hallways are to the ability of the AI of the enemies to focus on one versus two players -- because it's no fun to play the co-op guy that the world seems to ignore -- to how the narrative of single-player story is told." Make sure to check out the whole interview.

Couple of things in this bunch of stuff!
New poll, yup I finally took down the old one and thought of a new one. Damn too much brain power was used there!
Here's the results for the DOOM 3 is when? poll:
Quarter 1 - 14% Quarter 2 - 30% Quarter 3 - 20% Quarter 4 - 13% 2005 and beyond - 23% New poll is based on what yuo think of the Xbox DOOM 3 stuff we've had poured upon us lately! A bit more interesting then the last poll that's for sure, not hard to achieve mind you.
Next up, we've set up a community member's page section, which features links to their own websites or other bits and bobs. Head on over to the page for more details.
That's it for this bunch of stuff. This week coming should be pretty busy, E3 is just around the corner!
